On 4th July, the church hosted a long-awaited folk evening. The folk band, Camus, swept up a knowledgeable audience into a wave of remarkable performances taking us from laughter to sadness led by the players’ fine musicianship. The five members of the band with their wide range of instruments: keyboard, violin, guitar, pipes, accordion and voice, captivated those listening through the wonderful quality of the music-making and the stories being told. The originality of the band’s arrangements and the rapport amongst them spoke of their ease together as performers, inviting listeners to draw close. No amateurs these. We are immensely appreciative of such outstanding talent gracing our ancient church.

CAMUS is a traditional folk band, named after a village in County Galway, featuring Greg Smith (fiddle, viola), Edric Ellis (Northumbrian smallpipes, border pipes), Andrew Burn (melodeons, vocals, Northumbrian small pipes), Brian Cleary (guitar, vocals, bouzouki) and David Somerville (keyboard, Northumbrian small pipes). They play an exciting mix of traditions, with influences from Northumberland, Ireland and Shetland, a dash of bluegrass and Galician, and their own tunes and songs
